Removing Filemote

Removing the software and removing the device from your account are two separate things. Do the first here, and do not skip the last section.

Windows, installed with the installer

Use Uninstall Filemote in the Start menu, or Settings → Apps.

The uninstaller asks one question: whether to delete the AI environment and your data as well.

  • Yes removes the private Python runtime, the downloaded models, the agent settings, the knowledge base under %APPDATA%\Filemote, the transcription and embedding caches under your user profile, and finally the install folder itself.
  • No keeps all of that. A later reinstall then restores your login and your models without downloading anything again.

Either way the application is gone, and the "start at logon" entry is removed automatically. Choose No if you are reinstalling or moving to another build; choose Yes if you are done with Filemote on this machine.

Windows, portable

Delete the folder.

That leaves one thing behind: if you used the AI knowledge base, its data lives in %APPDATA%\Filemote, outside the portable folder. Delete that too.

Linux

For a service install:

sudo systemctl stop filemote-agent
sudo systemctl disable filemote-agent
sudo rm /etc/systemd/system/filemote-agent.service
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo rm -rf /opt/filemote

Replace /opt/filemote with your own path if you installed with --prefix.

For a run-in-place install, stop the process and delete the extracted folder.

macOS

launchctl unload ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.filemote.agent.plist
rm ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.filemote.agent.plist
rm -rf ~/Applications/Filemote ~/Library/Logs/Filemote

Again, adjust the path if you installed with --prefix.

The knowledge base on Linux and macOS

The AI service keeps its index outside the install folder, in ~/Filemote/knowledge_base. Removing the install prefix does not remove it, so delete it separately if you indexed anything:

rm -rf ~/Filemote/knowledge_base

Deleting the files does not tell the server anything. Until you revoke it, the device stays listed on your account with a valid token.

Revoke it in the web app. If you later reinstall on the same machine, pair it again with a fresh code — see link a device to your account.

Closing your account altogether is a different operation and is not covered here.
